Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
I don't actually know what these things are called, but after looking at the turbo, I am missing two. Could this be the source of my slow spool-up since it could be leaking exhaust gas out there instead of sealing up good against the hot-side housing? Anyone know where I can find replacement "plates" to put on there? It's a PTE 50 trim turbo and currently am hitting 20 psi at around 5500-6000 rpms.

Sent them an email just now. Didn't know if these plate things are universal or not. I'll probably call them monday also, thanks guys.

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
THey make 2 diff kinds, ones that use 2 bolts so maybe 2 inches long and another kind that uses 3 bolts, basically semi-circle clamps that cover half the turbo.

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
Yeah, these ones are the 2 bolt ones. So do you think missing these plates would cause my extremely slow spool-up?
|
Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
that could be. but then again I'm no expert. it does seem like they are supposed to be there tho. did you have the turbo rebuilt by anyone recently?

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
OK, I pulled the turbo off a little bit ago and took a closer look at this. This is what I figured out (sorry about the crappy paint picture).
How it is suppose to be (suppose to have 2 plates total). Held on by 4 bolts (2 in the middle and 1 on each side) http://i28.tinypic.com/9v8fx3.jpg How it is: http://i25.tinypic.com/2hf0v4j.jpg So somehow the plate broke in 2 spots. At least I have a better idea of how this turbo is put together now. Realized Memorial Day is tomorrow so I'll have to wait until tuesday to call up PTE and see if they would sell a plate separately (don't see why not). |
Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
hopefully this improves your spooling situation.

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
doubt thats the problem. Been like that since i bought the turbo. Check the shaft play..
|
Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
Barely any shaft-play on the turbo. Doesn't smoke or anything either.
|
Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
hmm... id check everything for boost leaks ect. since dudeman took the trans back out.

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
The plates to not seal anything. They hold the housings onto the center section. The housing has a flat spot machined into it and thats what seals the housing to the center section. Its not good they are missing so replace them for sure, but do a boost leak test, try a different boost controller, make sure there are no exhaust leaks before the turbo.

And people wonder why I hype stock/stock-frame turbos so much.

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
The T-2small has this type of connection on the exhaust housing....

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
Diesel Components Inc. have it, but I didn't make the drive to go grab it today. Me and AwdGSX13 were discussing the car today and figured we may have a boost leak around the intake mani since I have an abnormal idle. For now, I may just leave it as-is because apparently it doesn't seal up anything there like I thought and then track down where the leak is towards the intake mani.

Re: Anyone know where I can find replacements for these "plates"?
how much did they want for the plates? i could probably spit on diesel components from my work. Maybe i can stop by and pick them up for ya
