Upper Intercooler Piping
My upper intercooler piping keeps popping off. I have no idea why. I just got a brand new coupler and it continues to do so. Any thing that might help or if you want more info let me know. I'll do the best that I can to explain it. I'll show a pic of where it is popping off when I get out to my car next.

Re: Upper Intercooler Piping
Try using T-bolt clamps to hold it on?

Re: Upper Intercooler Piping
I used hose clamps on my IC piping, just don't over tighten them. Maybe the IC pipe coupler is to big? Hose clamp is to big and doesn't get tight enough?

Re: Upper Intercooler Piping
Make sure both surfaces are fairly clean of any oils and such, if all else fails you might want to have a couple of beads welded onto that part so the couple does not slip off. A lot of factors could be causing your problem. From the picture it looks like it is not centered and there is constant tension towards your throttle body.

Re: Upper Intercooler Piping
I'm pretty sure it's the picture it's pretty centered, (the couplers are just turned). But thanks.

Re: Upper Intercooler Piping
Your problem is those shitty spectre couplers, they're made out of a plasticy rubber type stuff, and when it gets hot, it stretches and they pop off. Spend the extra money and get some nice ones from MAP.

+1 get some good couplers

Re: Upper Intercooler Piping
hey brandon Im pretty sure your UICP doesnt have a bead on the end off it. and yea that spectre coupler is junk. any filter/coupler from oriellys is usually junky.

Re: Upper Intercooler Piping
Rule #1, pipe ends need beads or any coupler with any clamp will blow it off.
Rule #2, T bolts work 10x better, last longer, and will give you less head aches, maybe not necessary if under 20psi. Rule #3, what the coupler is made out of is important, specially on problem couplers... nice silicone couplers are still sticky when hot, rubber and junky ones expand, and get slippery and will slip off pipes. |
