Where should i take my HKS Cam to get tapped for the CAS bolt.

HKS suposedly don't come tapped unfortunately ;( otherwise i'd have it installed now and running.

Or also what size is it?

I have had Motors by Gosh and the St. Louis Park NAPA do it before. Mike at QPR might be capable of doing it will all his equipment. I usually just take the bolt from the CAS to the machine shop with the cam.

If it just needs to be tapped, we can do that here, give us a call tommorrow E man, or swing by before 6 and we'll take care of it.

Re: Intake Cam tapping?

We can still probably do it. Just bring by the bolt and cam and we'll beable to figure it out (if we can or can't) real quickly.

Re: Intake Cam tapping?

It's pretty easy. My brother whom is a machinist did mine. Drilled it in a lathe and tapped it out manually. If you know anyone who has a lathe, you're set. All we did was wrap mine with this plastic mesh sheathing material they use for shipping. That way the lobes and the cam cap surfaces wouldn't get damaged.

Re: Intake Cam tapping?

Yeah, only problem is our lathe is super tiny (9" diameter by 20" long work area).

Re: Intake Cam tapping?

Josh- we didn't need the large work area. Can you place items further back into the chuck, if you know what i mean? Our chuck we had on was probalby only 10-12" diameter but that didn't matter nor did the size of the work area. We only had about 1+" actually sticking out of the chuck. The rest was back in further. Just used a dial indicator for straightness dialin and drilled away.

A cam would fit, but we don't have a live center, so no dice, sorry enes.

Napa in st louis park is unlisted. If you are going west on 394 from 94, you would get of on loisiana. Then you take a right just before the post office and it is there. I forgot the name of the road. Let me know if you need the number. I got it from them once but don't have my cell here now.

Re: Intake Cam tapping?

The SLP napa machine shop is located off louisiana and 27th (I believe). The phone number is 952-926-0347. I am pretty happy with his work. We were having compression issues and a possible warped head. He was going to mill it and did a tressure test on the head. Found 6 bent vavles and 3 bad guides on a head that ran. I will probly bring him more in the future. Quick turn around also.
