I am not saying don't try stuff.
But a lot of people try to work on their cars and bad things happen.

Oh yeah, i have researched and worked on my own car, at times with limited tools (i used to only have a 2** piece tool set, now its less) i would honestly say that if you can do it yourself it not only saves you money, but the satisfaction is bomb too.

I also agree with you on the whole trust issue and vehicle history thing.
Also realize people that these cars are a little old and a little touchy, so keeping a sharp eye on these things is key.

My DSMs,
seperated a harmonic balancer,
fuel pump gave out,
heater hose cracked,
ebrake quit working,
my power windows don't work (gonna fix soon) and i have no heat (also gonna fix soon).
