Don't take this as an insult, but a lot of problems i see are from people that keep on trying to work on cars themselves and just are having the best of luck to so speak.
But yeah some of your problems def. seem to be from some DSM gremlins

If you do enough research you can do anything. Whats the difference between taking it to some shop that doesnt know the history of your car? Its still a human being doing the work. Sure some have had training, but (at least around here in CA) its hard to trust some of these shops.
A lot of them dont have the same goals as i do, they do things just to get them out the door. The only shops i have a good trust in would be LSE, DB, MAP and Elite. Only problem is that they are in MN. The reason i trust them is that i have met the guys from the shops and know the kind of work they do.
My big thing is i like to be at the place while the work is being done. I like doing it myself better then anything so that if it breaks in the future, i have already done the job so i should be able to do it again.
I recently applied at Pep Boys because they have a 10 bay garage, that made my mouth water, if i dont get the job oh well (as it is a second job) but it would be kinda cool to do that.
