Re: Evo X upgrades
^Hence why I posted the rest of that post so maybe you should of read the rest of it?
And also a reason when I don't understand computer stuff I post up and ask here because I know that plenty of people know about computers here.
Now this being a mitsu site it might be a given we might know a little about mitsu's and maybe some other car shit.
Again, my previous post wasn't trying to be a smart ass I was making an honest suggestion.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I think you X guys are missing the point here. At the end of the day, the X is still a 4-cylinder turbo Mitsubishi, its not like the wheel needs to be reinvented. A little research would have shown the X and IX share the same stock BOV so logic would tell you that you can use the same upgraded BOV's that the VIII and IX guys are using. Why pay double the price just because its a newer car even though its the same thing? That logic just doesn't fly with me, nor will it with the majority of members on this board. We're here, as a board, to help, but when you make stupid decisions we're going to be more than willing to point them out to you. Consider it a learning experience.
I still say sell that over-priced stock BOV to some other newb on EvoM and just crush yours.

^ Not to mention it's a glorified Dodge Caliber as well:

Re: Evo X upgrades
^i agree, I'm not defending the choice as much as the price. I crushed mine, I looked into the options. I'm just saying parts are expensive because it's a new car. The decision to buy certain parts is another story.
Anyway, in Detroit now heading Mexico for work. No fun there but hey it's warm

Actually, the belt line, mirror position, front grill height, wheelbase and fender height, as well as windshield rake all look similar.
But that's to be expected since the Evo X and the Caliber share the same chassis.
As well as the, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Chrysler Sebring, and Mitsubishi Outlander.
Just an FYI

Re: Evo X upgrades
I don't want to look at a crushed BOV when I open the hood. The AMS intake makes the thing very visible whereas the stock intake hid it under the strut tower bar.
If I knew that the Tomei worked then it looks nice but like I said...I've read a dozen BOV reviews on the X and most of them were judged to be worse than stock. I don't self-tune so it isn't affordable for me to buy a bunch of them for testing purposes. This is the one upgraded-spring BOV that somebody has tested and confirmed that it works like it should.

Re: Evo X upgrades
You do realize that a "crushed" BOV looks stock right? Unless you really know what to look for you'd never even know as long as you put a cloth between it and the vice to prevent scratches.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I think that I didn't express myself correctly and I apologize.
I meant that you might need to go outside and take a look at it yourself and just think of crazy ideas that you come up with yourself, then tell someone what u came up with and together you can find something effect and cost effective.
Again, I wasn't trying to insult you I need to figure out better ways to communicate my point affectively.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Transferring a couple posts from EvoMN.
--
I got a call from Shane this evening and he says my car is mostly torn down. He just needs to remove the oil pump to gain access to the rod bolts on one of the cylinders. I read a thread about this the other day--there is a sprocket that gets in the way.
Tomorrow I'll run to DB over an "executive lunch" and grab my intake manifold and valve cover. I'll bring the BBX and intake manifold to GrimmSpeed for PnP/coating and run the valve cover to Primo tomorrow evening. I'll grab a couple pics of the motor when I swing by DB.
I received the GoPro HD camera today. It's nice and small. I should be able to capture some fun video this Summer at BIR and auto-x events.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Ordered an APR splitter today as well. I'm not sure what else I'll do for the exterior since I don't like how the APR canards look. Their GTC300 wing seems okay.
Interesting that their photos have a MN car, isn't it?

Re: Evo X upgrades
I didn't like the look of the APR canards (looked flimsy) so I ordered the Rexpeed--got a set of the hood dampers as well. The JDM canards that I priced out were stupid-priced for something that might get bashed by a cone this Summer ($600+).

Re: Evo X upgrades
Tear down in progress. I dropped the BBX and intake manifold off at GrimmSpeed over lunch for some PnP/coating.
I had never seen the other side of a valve cover before. Some fancy passageways here. That'll be off to Primo in a few minutes.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Both Primo and GrimmSpeed were willing to commit to having the parts done by Monday. I'll get a call if they have it sooner. Don't want to slow Shane down too much but this is obviously the time to get this stuff done.

I'm not porting the head or messing with the valves--just new Cosworth valve springs there. The intake mani is at GrimmSpeed and I'm going to a Full Race tubular on the exhaust side.

Re: Evo X upgrades
OK cool, I'm sure I just missed the part about the exhaust manifold earlier in your thread. I assume you got black coating for the turbine housing? Are you doing a thermal dispersant coating on the intake manifold? Definitely considering a phenolic gasket for the intake manifold. With the gasket + coating my IM it stays cool to the touch even after a hard auto-x run when it used to get burn-your-skin-off hot.

Yup, that is the plan. Boomba sells a gasket and I love their stuff.
