Okee dokee! Well wire in that wideband to the ecu while you're digging down there, that config file has logging setup for it

Excited this thing is so close! Man you must be ecstatic!

I am almost offended by that.

mlomker, Saturday, lets get that wideband on and log this thing. MOD day is almost here!

Why? It's not like I am talking directly about anyone. It's just what happens. People say that their plans have changed and now they have a family, but it really just means they typically can't afford a child and to mod a car.

If Lomker had kids I bet he wouldn't have spent so much on his car

Before this car I always had more money than time. Now I have neither.

I'm stoked! Gotta drag all that stuff out tonight and figure out what bits I need. The PLX setup is more complicated than some (has control boxes, etc).

Yep I get that part, peoples priorities change quite a bit once you have children, someday you will understand, it is not that a person cant afford to mod a car and have kids. That is all was trying to say. It is all good.

Back on topic. mlomker, can wait to see the setup, are you planning on putting all the plastic back on and such or it is not possible with the new setup?

The beauty with that tank location is that you can reinstall the whole trunk with it there. It'll definitely be out on Saturday when I'm there...going to keep an eye out for leaks for a week or whatever.

Re: Evo X upgrades

The last two hours were 'interesting'. I stopped at O'Reillys after work to pick up some hose for installing an afpr.

I went out to start the car and it was a no go. I try to do a bit of troubleshooting but being alone and without tools, it wasn't too easy. I called Full Blown and got the name of their preferred towing outfit.

One interesting thing about the Eagan (Yankee Doodle & 35E) O'Reillys is that the parking spots are kind of on a hill. Not as steep as having the front end on ramps but fairly steep. I'd thought about letting the thing roll down to a flat spot to give it a try but waited for the tow truck since I didn't want to obstruct the parking lot if it didn't start.

Sure enough, it started on the level. Now what? A surge tank setup that won't start if the car isn't level doesn't compute.

I'll call them tomorrow and see if they have any ideas.

Re: Evo X upgrades

My car did that too back in the day when it ran. I had to have my roommate bring a 5 gal jug to help me start it. Started great when i got more fuel in there.

Did you have a low tank of fuel?

3/4 of a tank. Also keep in mind that I have a surge tank now...it should be impossible for it not to start. That intermediate tank should hold plenty of fuel to start the car.

The only thing that comes to mind is some air in the system/tank. I'm going to run it past FB before I do anything but removing one of the lines on the top and filling the tank to the top once is the only thing that I can think to try.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Here is a thought, and this is just a theory, it is possible you flooded the engine on a warm restart? If you let it sit for awhile (20 minutes or so) that would give enough time to clear the engine of fuel and possibly explain why it started.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Shawn, I had considered that and plan to re-test by visiting O'Reillys today. I had been trying it every twenty minutes or so.

Right now my assumption is that the hanger needs to be pulled and modified so it doesn't have slits in it that allow the fuel to get away from the pumps. My theory is that the in-tank pumps were dry despite having 3/4 of a tank, due to the grade of the parking spot. The obvious problem is that you do have to park on hills once in a while, in real life.

---
I did discover this morning that the Bosch is over-running the stock fpr. It's around 57psi at idle, which is way too much.

Two possible solutions:

1) Rewire pumps so that the Bosch is powered from the car's relay and the in-tank is always on using the add-on relay. I know that MDR suggests this as an optional wiring approach in their surge tank instructions. I'm not sure if it'd be enough to make the stock fpr happy but it'd lighten the load.

2) Install the afpr. I appear to have everything that I need other than a bracket to mount it to the front of the motor. I can either McGuyver something or wait and see if Full Blown can fabricate something decent next week.

Right now I'm leaning toward rewiring it tomorrow...that way I can just go bonkers with wiring, both that and the gauges.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Ask MAP if they will sell you the bracket they made for my car. They made a AFPR kit off for my car and sell it on their site. I bet they would give you the bracket.

Re: Evo X upgrades

When it get into that state, did you try holding it WOT for a few seconds while turning it over? Sometime that will clear a flooded engine as well. (again on operating on the assumption it was flooded)

I like your idea better though, I will be sure to bring along my soldering station for you to do your rewiring.

Maybe TOO MUCH fuel for a warm start is your problem?

This is what I was thinking as well, but that wouldn't explain why it wouldn't start on an incline.
