Electric Power Steering pump

My subaru XT6 had(has)(no longer have the car) Electric Power Steering. it worked great.

Also, I noticed that (a couple years ago) the new Saturn Ion came equipped with electric power steering

Third, DSMs in general look great with the power steering removed, it cleans up the engine bay quite a bit

Forth, with our emergency on-the-side-of-the-road 4-bolt installation, and no way to plug the power steering fluid, the galant is power steering less. My brother loves the lack of power steering. I personally think the lack of power steering removes from the overall niceness and comfort of the car, and with the stock seats, there is no way to brace my body correctly while I put 100% of my effort into it to turn the wheel....while its at a standstill.

Finally, theres alot of space above the steering rack and behind the engine in the galant, is it possible, well, i know its possible, but is it feasable, to install an electric power steering pump on top (or close to) of the yet-to-be-installed DSM power steering rack?

I want to be able to turn the power steering on, and off, with the flick of a switch, say, next to the fog light switch, maybe the extra electrical power drain could be turned off while on the freeway to remove load from the alternator and thus increast gas mileage? or is the extra power drain not an issue?

I am not sure WHICH electric power steering pump to use however....the subaru one used very expensive "cybrid" power steering fluid, maybe using a GM electric power steering pump would use standard fluid.....

What do you think, and why hasnt this mod been done before (well, why havent I heard about it before)

Thanks
