Alternator interchange between Turbo and NA?

I have been having electrical troubles with my car lately. Every once in a while this problem happens. The cars electrical system dies. It has to be the battery or the alternator. I had them both checked lately, the battery at sears and the alternator at redrooster where they hooked up something to measure the draw. Both checked out fine.

However the car doesn't seem to be holding a charge. Started the car up this morning, drove a short distance, the wipers were going slow, then the radio died, shut the car off and tried to start it again and it just turns over very slowly...

So since the battery checked out fine, I am thinking it is the alternator isn't putting out consistanly... any other ideas what it could be??

This car is a 1993 gs and I am going to try to swap alternators from a turbo and I don't know if they are the same

Re: Alternator interchange between Turbo and NA?

Should be. The turbo alternator might be a higher amp model, but it depends more on the original option list.

Re: Alternator interchange between Turbo and NA?

I just talked to the autoparts store and they told me it is a different model number....

So the question is will this still work? They told me it depends on if the car came with an automatic or a turbo...

they have to be really really really close!
they are both 4g63 motors

Like you said it may be just a higher amp model

We will just have to wait and see what happens!!!!

Re: Alternator interchange between Turbo and NA?

It works just fine!!!!!

However what did the other alternator in was that power steering fluid was leaking onto the alternator. It is still leaking! I have clamped the nut on the top of the banjo down tight.... leaks...used a washer...leaks....use a copper washer.... leaks...used gasket sealer... leaks.... What the heck is going on! I am ready to remove the power steering pump completely!
