Learning a stick for the first time can be easy or difficult depending on the car and the condition of the clutch. It took me about a week to get it totally down (no jerking at all). I know several peole who say they can drive a stick well but jerk every gear they hit and rev to 2000 rpm before they get going. I don't call that knowing how to drive a stick. Some clutches engage really quickly and others are at the end of the pedal. It is just something that takes practice to get down.
