Oil pressure guage question...

Hey guys, I feel like a fuckin moron asking this question, but I feel I need to ask it. Since getting the car running, I decided I need to be able to keep a decent eye on my engine so I go a boost, water temp, and oil pressure guage. I got the boost in just fine and the water temp wont be hard to get in, but I am having a few issues with the oil pressure guage. I know where the oil pressure sender is on the filter housing, but the fitting deal I got is just a tick too big to get into the stock oil pressure sender units hole. I figured the fitting from the pressure guage was a standard size where the stock oil pressure sender unit's hole was metric, am I right? Also, is the oil pressure sender's line supposed to fill up with oil? Does it just do it automatically or is there something I gotta do? Thanks guys.

I'm sure it's metric. There will be oil pressure there, nothing more to do than put the sender/fitting in.

Really? Damn, I tried for quite some time to get it on, even on my spare oil filter housing. Well, I will keep fuckin around with it, thanks man.

Also, on your oil filter housing, there should be two allen head plugs that are just unused ports. You can remove them to run turbo feed lines and oil pressure sending units.

If your housing is old and rusty, make sure you heat it up first before trying to remove the plug, otherwise it will strip and then you're screwed.

my allen head bolts were a bitch to get off but when I did I just took the bolt to the hardware store and got a reducer, works great. I think it ended up being a standard size too but don't quote me on that.

The hole that the stock sending unit threads into is 1/8" BSPT, not our NPT.

Yeah most of the plumbing on the engines are standard, not metric. On my 420a, the oil sender was a 3/8 NPT fitting on the back of the block and I just needed a 3/8 to 1/8 reducer to put my oil pressure gauge on.

the 420a is made here in america, hence the NPT threads. The 4g63 is made in japan, where for some reason or another they've used BSPT (british standard pipe thread) for quite a few years.

And yes, I plan on using the allen deal to run the oil pressure sender. I have to get my 90 oil filter housing back in there to be able to run the oil cooler and I am just going to put this pressure sender in there before I put it in the car next spring. Eventually I will also be feeding the turbo from there, but probably not until the bigger turbo comes.

You can run a 1/8" NPT tap down the 1/8" BSP hole and the sensor will thread in, or use a reducer off the allen plug that sticks straight out off the oil filter housing, and if you want to plum oil to your turbo use the hole that points down at an angle, VFAQ goes over this. Heat and liquid wrench or similar will help, but if you strip it out they are not that hard to remove, off the car that is.
