Vibration/Noise on Decel

1g awd 5spd
At highway speeds when decelerating, I hear/feel a noise and vibration, kinda like a thumping. My guess is the carrier bearings on the driveshaft... Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Vibration/Noise on Decel

I would assume carrier bearings on the drive shaft like you said. When I launch my car I can hear the driveshaft thumping, and on decelleration I can hear it making a little noise sometimes. A good way to check is to grab the driveshaft and see how far it moves in the bearings. On my car, it moves quite a bit inside the bearing case.

Well, are you refering too the rubber surround that goes around the driveshaft? 'Cause I can grab the shaft and with little effort move the driveshaft all over the place at both bearings.

Isn't there a cheapo fix for this that works sometimes? Like fill in the bearings with some sort of thick lube or rubber gunk?

Re: Vibration/Noise on Decel

check the universal joins as well.
have someone look under the car while you feather the clutch in and out with the parking brake on, this will load/unload the drive shaft so you can check for excesive play
