HID Conversion Question

I'm thinking about doing an HID conversion on my 2g, but I've heard that if I use the stock headlight housing, the light will not project properly unless I use one of those shatty ebay projector housings. Is this true? Anyone seen or had experience with this issue?

Re: HID Conversion Question

My friends 2000+ BMW 3-series with aftermarket HIDs started on fire and burned the complete front half of the car to the ground.

Re: HID Conversion Question

Yea, having my car get burned down is one reason I'm only "thinking about" a conversion at this point.

Corey - I was looking at kits; pics of the retro-fits that I've seen look like ass. But then again, the kits look like the ballast housings will melt my stock headlight housing since the bulbs can get crazy hot. So I'm not sure.

Re: HID Conversion Question

Have them on my 2g for many years now. Stock housings and all. No fire, no burning smell, working perfectly. Just make sure the bulbs fit correctly and are not touching any plastic part of the housing. Install the wiring in a professional manner and well insulated, should be ok.

did you have something similar to this where the bulbs are surrounded by a clear housing?

Re: HID Conversion Question

You should be fine. I've heard of nothing bad but those picky people who want those "true" projectors. I have some in my SC300 and they're fine.

Mine are ebay ones and were $80 shipped, hahahahaha. ;-) They've worked fine so far... If my car burns down to the ground. YAYYYY road trip for the next one!
