2x Odd questions in one thread!!!

First off, i've got a turbo here, part number 49178-01420. Which comes up as a big 16g. Now, first question, the wheel on the turbo is destroyed, and needs to be replaced, does the 18g wheel(compressor side) fit in the housing just fine? I've seen people say they've done it, but no comment on if the housing was machined. Can find both wheels for the same price, so i figure if it will work, i might go for it.

Second question, the turbos are td05h's as 99% of you know. So couldn't i just switch the exhaust and compressor housing from the blown one onto the new center with the rebuild kit i have for the 16g? And then not have to pick up the two rings i needed in this thread. http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/showt...626#post230626

I know the wheels will have to be switched over, and i'm starting to think a 18g/14b combo would be too out of balance for the car but seeing as i'll be getting a 17c turbo over the summer for just the cost of shipping, it's starting to make me think.

And before anyone says to it, i have. Just checking up with some people i know that know there stuff before i start throwing a few hundred at something that MAY work.

I doubt the 18g will fit without machining the housing, it is a bigger wheel.

I'm pretty sure it would still need to be balanced after switching the wheels.

Call Forced Performance. They can give you all of the upgrade options for that turbo.

It will be balanced, i know someone at work that knows someone... so i've got options locally from a good source.

I thought, with the 16g being a larger compressor housing then the normal, and people recommending the 18g because it spools like a 16g but flows better with slightly larger lag. I thought, maybe it's the 7cm housing with an 18g wheel inside, and the large 16 is just a smaller wheel with slightly better spool up.

Anways, i've had a few late nights, and i need some good sleep for work tomorrow.

Does anyone besides Diesel Components balance them around here?

The 18g was always known as 16g power with 20g lag

OK, Large 16g wheel ordered and otw, so it will start off with a 14b and 16g to start, and mid-late summer should be going with what i'm told is a 17g off the old typhoon's. Havn't done too much work on them.

Where's that Diesel Components at that you know of? I was told of a place in Cambridge, but i can't remember the name of it. That sounds like the one though.
