Re: Conflict Resolution, DSMStyle Members, Need Your Opinions.

Every single dsm that i have owned has had issues. But thats what we sign up for when we buy them. Regardless of whether he told you or not about the coolent leak, Almost ALL dsms Leak coolent. Its mainly from old rubber hoses cracking or the seal on the water pump. It happens, just grab a black light turn on the car turn off the lights and look for the glowing liquid. Boost leaks are one of the most common problem with DSMs ESPECIALLY the shitty side mount. They always leak. They are built to leak. Get a new used one or upgrade to the FMIC.
The purple smoke is likely white, or its one of those cool exhaust systems that puts purple powder in the catalyst to make it puff purple smoke, made by the same manufacturer of scorchers and those tires that burn red or blue smoke. WOOOOT
But seriously, its a DSM, use this site or VFAQ to solve all of your problems.

My 96 just needed a new radiator, which i replaced before i took ownership, drove it home just fine, ($1000 woot)

I've never had a DSM that leaks coolant. I have never had a leaky side mount (don't get me wrong, I've had PLENTY of other problems). I actually think the stock sidemounts are pretty solid. Even if it leaks, you don't need to get a phatty bling FMIC. Just find a used one that doesn't leak, pressure test it to make sure, and put it on your car. Or just seal up the leak on your original one.

Why the hatred for stock parts? People seem to think that stock parts not functioning is because they're stock parts, and stock parts are 'shitty'. Not true. Stock parts are almost always of higher quality than the aftermarket stuff people buy.

Just remember, you don't have to upgrade to get it running properly. Upgrades just add complexity and points of failure. Get it running soundly stock, then upgrades will be easier and that much more rewarding
