I'd really like to get a new TV, but hey my old tube is still chugging along for free, it's hard to justify spending the money when I have something that still works for the most part.

For the amount of time we watch TV, id rather not squint. haha Plus HD is the shit.

Compare the amount we spend on cars, to a 600-1000 dollar TV, which you keep for at least 5 years... Id think its very justifiable.

another thing with the led's, they are darker compaired to lcd, but give much truer colors. they give better colors because the led's can be turned on or off creating much much more contrast.

led's also use about 40% less electricity than lcd's

another thing with the lcd's, is that if you have a bright spot, mostly white, it tends to be so bright it washes out surrounding colors

Why are you scared of 120hz?

There is a definite difference between tvs with it and without it. Especially when watching sports or other movement rich content there is much less motion blur. If you go to costco you can look at ones without and ones with and there is a definite difference.

The lack of any motion blur is what messes with my head. It feels like you're watching everything through a home video camcorder. Not scared of it, it's just trippy. I'm sure I'd get used to it pretty quick.

There is a very noticeable difference when watching action movies or stuff on TV like sports and racing, anything with lots of moving around. It's just smoother. Ultimate Electronics has/had a display showing the two side by side and it was pretty obvious.

The cheaper brands have definitely closed the gap over the past year or two, especially since there are only like two or three LCD manufacturers in the world, but I'd still take a Samsung/Sharp/Sony/Mitsubusi over a Vizio/Haier/Philips if I had a choice. Unless you're a crazy technophile/audiophile you will be just fine with one of the cheaper TVs as long as it has all of the options YOU want YOUR TV to have.

My work decided to go green and bought LED laptops for us this year. Their main reasoning is because they use less electricity. The batteries last longer than our previous computers, but I don't notice any major differences. Looking at my screen right now, the graphics are fine. The only difference in picture quality I notice is if I try to watch a video clip or movie full screen. The picture quality on this computer is crap compared to our previous ones with the lcd screens. It is definately a noticable difference in full screen clips. I am not sure if the picture quality is better in the TVs than it is on laptops, but I would definately look at the picture quality before buying one.

Its like MattD Stated earlier, LED is the backlighting, not the actual pixels. your new laptop just has LED Backlighting rather than cold cathod. Its more energy efficient, and can be made thinner. Hence why the new LED Tvs are like 2 inches thick. but your screen is still an LCD.
If your company is really looking to become energy efficient, tell them to replace all of their light bulbs and recessed lighting with Permlight LED products. I used to work for this company and the energy savings is awesome, and yet it produces the same if not more light than a regular bulb.
