CBRD BBX - stock appearing turbo for evoX
Paging murlo and mlomker, initial results are in! This thing is rated at ~57lbs/min and AFAIK is 100% stock appearing (once the intake is on).
Can't wait to see more numbers out of this turbo. At the same time, I'm still kinda disappointed at how low of torque the EvoX stock frame turbos are making...

The "test" Evo is a customers car, has "normal" modifications and makes/made normal power for its level of modifications, if not a little less than normal power compared to other 10's we have had through the shop. For this reason I feel this was a good test car for the new BB-X turbo.
2008 Evo 10 GSR
Mods:
CBRD BB-X stock appearing turbo upgrade
CBRD WGA
T1R catback
MilSpec 100 cell hiflow cat
AMS downpipe
AMS FMIC
RRE UICP
AEM intake
DW 1000cc injectors
BlaqOps progressive double pumper system
Boomba Fuel Rail
APS BOV
GST 3 port boost solenoid
E85 fuel (91 tune coming next)
+83 whp peak gains
+100 whp gains up top!
419 whp / 326 wtq
For a Evo, with these mods and a hiflow cat , these are pretty darn good numbers on E85 on our dyno.
This turbo can hold some serious boost. This tune was at 28psi across to 8,000 rpm. This turbo can easily run more boost as the highest WGDC used was 75% at 8,000 rpm. This car hit 100% IDC at 8k with the current injectors.

Hoping to get some more testing on some other Evo 10's here soon to get more data, so far this is looking to be a great stock appearing turbo upgrade!
- Bryan
For reference:
Stock 03/04 evo = 190-210whp
Stock 05 evo = 210-215whp
Stock 06 evo = 220-230whp
Stock 08 evo = 215-230whp
Stock 09 Ralliart = 190-199whp

Other E85 Evo 10's with the same type of mods are making 340-360whp on stock turbo.
However, what to look at here are the gains between the two turbos on the same Evo 10.
Yes, upgrading the cams will make more power, as can be seen here: http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-x-d...ford-cams.html
Adding a test pipe will also produce more power, espically at this level of boost.
I feel this Evo 10 is a good example of a "middle of the road" build that most people like to see as real-world results.
A tubular manifold will add lag, but with some top-end gains.
I'm sure there will be more BB-X examples coming very soon.

Direct before/after, similar boost, no tuning:

Re: CBRD BBX - stock appearing turbo for evoX
It'll be interesting to see what the feel is like afterward. As you've pointed out, the torque curves are very different and seemingly not in a good way.

Nah this looks good man! With some tuning I bet on that setup one could make nice even power with a peak closer to 360. Great numbers for pump gas and minimal mods!

Re: CBRD BBX - stock appearing turbo for evoX
Not too bad, the BBX has quite a bit more boost up top though, looks like around 5 more psi up top. That is how a lot of turbos make more power though, by being able to just hold boost. But around 4500 where the boosts like about the same, there looks to be good gains. A lot of guys going from already big turbos to bigger turbos fall into the trap thinking that running the same boost on their XXL turbo as they did on their XL turbo will make more power, when it often doesn't. To quote Robert from FP, "If you are carrying 5 gallons of water in a 10 gallon bucket, you dont need a bigger bucket."
The upgraded turbo Evo X dyno charts start looking a lot like VTEC power bands with their peaky power band though.

Well, that just won't do. If we don't see 450@DB then I'll be annoyed.

Don't forget, cars are not perfect; careful not to set your goals too high, the let-down if something isn't quite right can be unbearable sometimes. Just gotta put together a good solid setup and do everything you can do to make sure its running as perfect as possible, get a good tune on it, and see where she lands. Don't forget the ultimate goal here isn't the numbers, but something you can go play with on the street or track and put a huge smile on your face!
Pretty sure this thing will do that, no prob

It's mostly a question of how DB's dyno reads relative to GST. GST has done 450 on a Dom so there's really no reason that it shouldn't.

Trust me, the world will give you plenty of reasons sooner or later From the mountain of data I've seen from both, GST's reads damn close do DB's Dyno Dynamics in (in AWD mode at least), maybe about 2-3% higher.

Not quite sure what you meant by that. My car only has 6k miles on it so I'm not expecting any surprises just yet. There haven't been any so far.

Just sayin that stuff breaks or wears down with time or without it. My luck sucks, so I like to remind others about stuff I've broken so they can both be ready for it if their stuff breaks, or be thankful it's running good

A couple of problems at first. My UICP was leaking really badly due to a messed up t-bolt clamp which had a kink in it followed by a very leaky Agency Power BOV. Good thing I had my stock BOV with me.
Chad installed my Perrin 3-port and went to work. While I went to go grab lunch the car was able to put down close to 450whp but for the sake of the motors life it was brought down to a comfortable 427whp and 324 ft/lb at 26.4psi.
I highly recommend CBRD and hope the best for them!
Mod list:
AMS FMIC
Nisei UICP
UR LICP
Kelford 214-A's
BBX - Tubular manifold
AMS DP, Test Pipe
Buschur Crossflow exhaust
Harman Motive intake
DW1000's
Spool isn't far off from stock and above 4.5k it pulls and pulls..
