No, the CAM sensor is reversed on 1g and 2gs. On 2g's it's on the front of the motor, behind the cam gears. So you have to switch the plug order 1/4 with 2/3 and also the injector trigger wires on the ECU. Or if you have link you just hit the "invert CAS" button.
Also since the the 1g CAS isn't the same style as a 2g, you'll get random misfire codes if you're just using an AFC, so you have to have link disable those codes.
This happened to my car for 2 years before I finally fixed it, the symptoms sound the same. If you don't already have dsmlink, buy it.
