That's how most suvs are these days unless you get push button 4wd like in a truck or awd like in a suby or audi. All computer controlled and usually fwd and rears kick in one it slips. Unless you are going rock crawling or whipping shitties you probably wont even notice.

i believe my yukon denali was the same way. RWD until it sees slipping then goes to awd. The worst thing about that system was the fact that the traction control was horrible, basically if it thinks you are sliding, it essentially applies the brakes. (or so it feels like)
