Ammo and the gun should be in a place a child can not get to. It had to be pretty accessible if they found it and the ammo and clip and started playing with both.
Parents are liable in this case imo.

I have nothing against with Gun Ownership, never have never will. HOWEVER. If you own a gun and do not have it locked up, (i mean LOCKED not just put away) and you have kids in the house. You should be charged with child endangerment, and if your kid gets ahold of it and ends up firing the weapon, you should get the full charges as if it were yourself committing the crime. If you have enough money to buy a gun, you have enough for a lock box.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for leaving your gun not locked up. NONE, so dont even try. Until we start making examples out of these people that their kids end up killing someone with the parents gun, nothing will change and we will continue to see this shit on the news. Education only goes so far, lock the guns up.
