I'm glad somebody got excellent work from another shop. But I don't want to turn this thread into post about "who has the better shop". I only wanted to give you details of my experience.

So please don't post about another shop specifically, good or bad.

Thanks,

Ok I'm way confused on that edit. If that wasn't appropriate how is your original post appropriate? Isn't this site for helping people by giving them honest information? If someone is looking for options on a rebuild don't you think they'd find both our posts helpful?

I'm not pissed or anything about the edit just confused and would like to know why so I don't make the same mistake again. [/b]
I don't want this thread turn into a comparison of different shops. This thread is about my experience with Magnus Motorsports. I think it's great you got good service at another shop. If anybody wants to know who it was, they can PM you. You could also start a thread about it. I just don't want to see this thread turn into a debate over who has the best shop. That's all.

Nothing to get confused about.

Wow. I can't believe all that happened and how you handled it. I would have been extremely pissed.

Are you going to go back to try and recover any money? Or just chalk it up to a lesson learned?
I just want to get this engine finished and running. It's a lesson learned also.

That sucks Viscious, im really glad you posted this because it will help the DSM community a lot. If it drives business away from Magnus well then i guess thats a lesson that they are going to have to learn.
Thank you viscious and extremly sorry to hear about this, just get that engine up and running and get into the 7s.

WOW....

I wish you the best of luck.. And definetly keep us updated on how the motor turns out once you get it started, broken in, and start to get it going under boost.

First of all, I'm very impressed with how this was handled by Vicious. I've seen a few times where a problem or disagreement happens between shop and customer and the customer takes their business to someone else and bitches about it. Had the customer went straight back to the original shop, they might have been well taken care of. It's sad that a reputable vendor like this has probably outgrown their capabilities and quality suffers.

It's also one more reason I do all my own work, except for trannies, nobody to blame but me. Besides that, building engines is fun.

Sorry to hear about the problems dealing with Magnus Motorsports. I actually had a good business experience with them. 2 years ago I got 2.0 6bolt stage 3 from them. I did mention number of times to Marco to add balance shaft eliminator kit for me and I actually faxed him 1 page paper what I wanted as well. I had a feeling I had to mention more then once to insure he would not forget to do for me. He did do this for me. I payed for a used front case and cas from them that I never used because they were bad. I never faulted them for that because they where used anyways. Magnus did send me a 7 bolt flywheel by accident too, but we returned it. Magnus has been innovative and has done great things. I used them for information on doing 1g engine swap with little machining work. They taught me the conversion from reading there web sight and they were nice to me on phone and answered my questions. I am grateful they built my bottom end and I have never suffered any problems. I eventually may in the future, but being that my first engine never lasted for 5 blocks, I have had a blast driving my car the last 2 summers. My goal was to have a working bottom end that will be realiable and with stand 400whp at least. I wish I could of heard that they corrected any mistakes in your case, but from reading your post that was never the case. Sorry to hear that. Let us know how everything turns out once engine up and running. Wish the best.

Time to vent a little further.

While talking to Marco about the build on my engine the first and second one, I was told there would not be any need to install ARP studs and align hone the block. Marco told me they were not experiencing any problems with the stock bolts. Marco, "They will hold fine, with no problems. We run our race car up to 9500 rpm under high boost with no problems". So I'm browsing the "new and improved" Magnus website and see this;

"Main studs and align honing – Although Factory Main bolts have proven to work at over 600hp there is evidence on motors which we have disassembled of factory main caps walking. Optional for those who want additional strength we offer this as an option."

What a suprise. I pay $4200 for the Magnus Stage 4 2.4L long rod short block. This is supposed to be their "Signature" engine that is the best available. And now I have my doubts about it holding up under the 30-35+ psi I plan to put to it. I'll let you know if I have to sweep the crank shaft off the race track.

$4200 gets you a 2.4L block & crank, Marco-Ross pistons, Marco-Pauter longer rods, Marco decking of the block, Marco boring the block, Marco balancing to less than 1 gram, supposedly lightened by 500 grams, Marco assembly with new bearings! That's it. Oh I forgot the Marco black paint!!

Yeah, I think I got fucked hard on this one.

OK, I feel better now.

I was asked earlier if I planned on pursuing anything legally against Magnus concerning the cylinder head parts and the answer is NO. I would think that if I really bitched about it, Marco would make it right.

I don't agree with the way my experience with Magnus turned out. And I hope I'm the only one this ever happens to. As I said at the beginning of this thread, I think Steve and Marco are nice people to deal with. And I believe Magnus builds good products.

I'm very precise in anything I do. I ask questions and take notes very well. I triple check everything. I'm sure Grandpa Raptor would be very proud of me. My goal was to purchase a "bullet proof" engine with all the "top shelf" parts that could take anything I threw at it power wise and hold up, with in reason of course. That's why I went to those that are known to be the best and paid for the best. But when doubt is raised after the fact, either by different parts being used or something being missing, or wrong, it makes me wonder if I made the right choice of engine builders. I'm sure you would ask yourself the same question. And I do hope I made the right choice.

It's just that I feel like I didn't get what I expected from them. Maybe my expectations were too high, maybe not.

In talking with several members of this board I feel better about it. I would like to thank those members (you know who you are). I got alot of questions answered by them. Some even gave me more info than I even needed.

I really hope I make the power I want out of this engine. As far as if the engine should ever fail, I will not or would not ever hold Magnus responsible for an engine failure that came from a tuning or assembly error on my part. That's why I never ever blamed anybody but myself for the failure of the first engine.

Peace,
1ViciousGSX

I am very curious on where Jakey's posts went??

I dont understand at all how they were deleting material and why they were deleted, all they talk about is lawyer stuff.... If you just took it away to keep magnus from seeing answers to it or something thats not cool.

If I were you I would take legal action... were not talking about a thousand bucks but more like over 10,000 in mistakes. Thats rediculous if you ask me.

I don't want to see this turn into a "sue them, get a lawyer, fight it in court" thread. It is not $10,000 in mistakes. That statement right there is an example of how this thread will get out of hand. This thread is about my experience with Magnus Motorsports. Did they "drop the ball", yes they did, several times. Did I still get a stage 3/stage 4 2.4L-LR engine? Yes I did, twice.

Honestly, you should probably just close this thread and add to it as you see fit. Between your editing and deleting what's the pointing of leaving it open for the public to post to? I thought this was a discussion board? If you don't want people to discuss it then close the thread. I understand what you're trying to do but it's not fair to the rest of us and it's disrespectful to "micro-moderate" what people have said after they've taken the time to read your story and type their own response.

Admins and Mods have a job here. It's keeping Threads and Post on topic and not letting them get out of hand. And talking about getting lawyers and courts involved in this is what I would call "getting out of hand". And that's not what this thread is about. I'm not trying to cause Magnus Motorsports or DSMStyle any problems. I only wanted to help you by giving a detailed account of my experience.

I know I learned alot from this experience, just as I hope Magnus Motorsports, DSMStyle and you did also.

If Allan or Jana feel that I'm doing something wrong here, I'm sure they will step in and say so.

I do appreciate everybody's posting in this thread, including yours. I'm sure Jakey understands why I edited what I did, but I also edited it because of what I had said, and after thinking about it further, I realized I was wrong. So to do the right thing, I edited post.

Please continue to post all you want to on these forums.
