Oil leaking from downpipe/o2 housing

Hey guys I just finished my 16g install in my Eclipse and I primed the new turbo by pulling the ENGINE fuse from the box then I cranked the car for like 15 seconds then went and checked for leaks. There was none. I thought good so I primed it again for another 15 seconds then I was ready to start it.
Immediately after I started it I saw smoke off the manifold and I thought this was normal.
then I continued to check all bolts and likes, everything looked good.
suddenly I noticed a lot of smoke in the garage! I then noticed oil dripping from where the 02 housing meets the down pipe.
What could this be from the turbo is brand new. Could the oil return be clogged somehow?
Please help ??

Sounds like a blown turbo or bad return line.

Yeah my return line was kinked a bit so I took it off and fixed it up then put it back in with new gaskets and rtv. Then I took off the down pipe and cleaned all the oil out of it. I then let the car run for a bit and burn all the oil out of the 02 housing.
Now all I have to do is bolt up the down pipe and let all the oil burn out of the exhaust.

If you have oil IN the O2 housing and/or downpipe, then i'd say it's a bad turbo like ecoli say. A return line no matter how bad it is wouldn't cause oil to seep into the exhaust. All over it, but not in it.

Re: Oil leaking from downpipe/o2 housing

Well the turbo is brand new.
This morning I bolted up the down pipe and let the car run for a while,
Holy smoke out the exhaust!!!!!
I lost a bit of oil so now it is all burning out the exhaust, I took it for a little drive and it was like a smoke stack out the exhaust.
I don't know how long it will take to get all this out. But I hope it dosen't take too long it's a little embarassing.
I can't wait too boost!!!!!!

Still.... how did oil get IN the exhaust pipe? A bad feed or return line wouldn't cause oil to get in the exhaust pipe. Did you spill oil in the pipe during assembly.

Bad return lines can cause that to happen. You won't see it much on DSMs, since a lot of people use hard return lines and your choice of return location is already setup. On other cars though, you always see people putting the return location on the pan below the oil level or having a crimped rubber oil return line or one that drops down too far and comes back up. When the return line is bad, oil can't return to the pan quick enough(it isn't under pressure on the return, gravity has to do all the work), so oil starts backing up in the center cartridge. If you let it do that for too long, then the seal will blow for good.

Yeah thats what happened.
I am kinda worried I may have damaged the new turbo seals, anyway to know for sure?

Re: Oil leaking from downpipe/o2 housing

Well I took it for a spin this am and I can already tell this thing pulls like mad even at 15 psi.
Well it still smokes like crazy, expecially under boost.
The car only ran for like 30 seconds withe the return line bent could this have hurt the seal?
Could it just be all the oil accumulated in the turbo is burning out the exhaust??
