Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

Sitting in the garage, it was good practice but I do not know if the car will be put together at anypoint. It seems that the full tube chassis with a fiberglass body is the way to go now days.

Depends if you are trying to actually run in a class though, or just run a fast time or run fast and still street drive it.

We have a shrink ray, patent pending.

Looks badass. Is there a reason for not aiming the turbo outlet right at the intercooler to give it a shorter route?

I thought about that too since the IC piping ends up being rather long. It would be a biscuit to make the custom end tanks, but if you clocked the compressor cover to point up, make the IC inlet face down to join up with just a coupler, then integrate a BOV into the IC outlet endtank, you'd have it. Mucho fabrication though. Might be a good project for myself when I get GT42 upgradeitus in the next year or so.

Looks good, should be a monster when it's done.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

I thought about doing that but I would have to make both endtanks custom. Then I do know know where I would put the BOV, it is a Greddy Type R so its not a small bov, Also it is a tight fit as it is with the big water to air over the tranny.

I may be missing something here but isn't running a single wastegate defeating the purpose of running a divided turbine housing and manifold?

The waste gate will only be on the #2/3 collector, so the manifold will stay divided, if it runs less then 30psi I will be happy, race gas and track times are all I care about right now. If the boost goes low enough it will get a full pump gas tune, if not I will add another waste gate off the #1/4 collector.

Your only gonna run the gate off 1 side of the collector??

Why does it matter once the turbo is spooled?

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

Spool isn't the problem, it's averting enough exhaust gases away from the turbo to keep the boost at a steady level. With a divided manifold and a single gate, the turbo is seeing less exhaust pressure from two of the runners than the other two. A single wastegate on a tubular manifold is usually plumbed into a merged collector, not a divided. This is similar to the way Buschur used to weld an HKS external on the number one runner of a stock manifold or the old cast T3 manifolds. I'm guessing this will cause some erratic boost control with this size turbo, but practice outweighs theory everytime. We'll see how it comes out. It shouldn't be that tough to add another wastegate later.

Re: Finally getting stuff done on our cars

Id be worried with high back pressure on 2-3 and low back pressure on 1-4. When the wastgate is open. But like Steve said people have been running gates of the #1 cly forever. I would try to do a single setup like in these attached pics.
