During break-in it was being changed every 4-5 days. Going forward it'll only need to be changed monthly, at most. That'll be worth the trip to Dad's house. If I had a driveway then I'd do it but I live downtown and the meter reader would have fun with that one.

Dude, we've told you countless times now that if you need to change your oil, JUST ASK! Plenty of us have driveways and garages with all the tools you'd need.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Welcome to DSMStyle!!! Where when you screw up, people let you know rather than giving you some sugar-coated response.
Just learn from it, take the comments for what they are and just move onwards and upwards!
Just be glad no one has brought up flamadation valve issues to you yet
Good luck and hopefully their is no real damage.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Even if you put 5.5 quarts in it, I doubt that the turbo return line would be covered up, if it is, thats a crappy pan design. Filling it to the max is common so I dont know if thats the issue here.

+1. I think it would need to be quite a bit over to cause any real damage. Haven't worked on or even seen the motor on a X though.
BTW, how did the car lose the oil?

Motorcycle cop pulls up next to me on UNI and says "Want to race?"
Me- "I don't think you would stand a chance."
Cop says "probably not" and drives off.

Re: Evo X upgrades
The only time you would be able to get the factory capacity into an oil change is with a totally dry motor. Like a new build with a totally dry/clean oil pan, dry oil cooler, dry, oil cooler lines, etc. Most of the quick change oil places are also not going to let the oil drain for 15 mins either and try to get as much out, they will pull the plug, let it drain quick, throw the plug back in and then if they put in the factory oil system CAPACITY, then you might have too much. Too much oil can blow turbo seals, other engine seals, rod HP, etc. The turbo oil return lines are usually right at the oil level and it you unhook it with the car off, oil will drain out. With the car running the level will be a little lower and allow it to return ok. A little bit too much and the oil starts to back up into the return line.

Re: Evo X upgrades
So did the dipstick just blow out, and that is what covered things in oil? Blowing out a dipstick on these cars isn't the most uncommon thing ever.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Yea, it blew the dipstick and then a geyser of oil shot out. Kinda like a 4G63, but instead of a little spray, it was a fountain.

Shane said he'd try to give me a mild tune that'd be safe for Monday. He is heading up to BIR for NASA so he has a hard time constraint. That's a long-winded way of saying: dunno.
The worst that could happen is I drink a lot more beer on Sunday night (if I'm not driving on Monday). I have a room in Baxter and I'm going to use it.
