Re: Evo X upgrades
Yeah guys, I park nose up so I always leave the parking brake on. I'll keep that in mind but you'd think you'd feel the car move at least a little in that case. I even revved it up to 3k and let it out in reverse and it died.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I'd love if that were the solution, Dave. One of those propane heaters (or just waiting a few weeks) is better than many things that crossed my mind.

Re: Evo X upgrades
any easy way to test would be to disengage the parking brake and see if it roles on its own

I obviously had it off before I tried to move the car. I'm willing to entertain that the pads may have frozen themselves to the rotors. I thought that was what you were suggesting. You'd think the motor would be able to overcome that, though.

Re: Evo X upgrades
This really does sound like something is frozen. I've had this *type* of thing happen a few times after playing in the snow. Something is frozen up pretty good, and I have to give it a fair amount of gas (3-4,000 rpm) to crawl out of it. Hopefully thats all it is.

Re: Evo X upgrades
A few winters ago when Scheides, Matt D, myself, and a few others took a man-weekend up north it was really cold and snowing hard. The entire car iced over and after sitting for 2 days in a cold garage the tires froze to the concrete and the brakes were packed solid with ice. Long story short, it took some high RPM clutch dumping to get everything broken loose.

HAHAAH I forgot about that! Yea even letting it warm up for like 15 mins wasnt enough, had to basically rev to 3000+ and do a little mini launch (in reverse) out of your parents garage.

Re: Evo X upgrades
This one creeps me out because it doesn't move at all. Normally when you try to move a car with the parking brake on it'll lurch or squat. Nothing here.
I suppose I should pull the back wheels and give the rotor a couple taps with a mallet. That'll make sure the tire isn't frozen on the ground and maybe free it up a bit.

Re: Evo X upgrades
When my car sat outside overnight this past Saturday and all day Sunday it was literally frozen in place. I had to rev it to about 6k and dump the clutch to break it free. This was in reverse as well.

Well, glad I'm not the only one. lol. I'd be afraid to dump it like that...it's in a parking ramp so that could end poorly.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I finally had time to break the car free this afternoon...all four calipers were frozen.
My new jack isn't working and the Rexpeed hood dampener borked my hood real good...there's now over a 2" gap from bending the hood. I'll try to find some money for a CBD hood in the Spring.

That sucks. Did that freeze up and refuse to collapse for the hood to close?

Re: Evo X upgrades
At least you can blame the hood strut thing on the weather. if it was a prop, you would only have yourself to slap.

Yup. It was slightly tweaked already from when I shut the hood a little too fast over the Summer. It's a lost cause now. I will just need to sell a few things and order one of those Carbon By Design hoods from MAP.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Those Rexpeed dampers are a joke, a few guys down here have them and it feels like I have to hang off the hood to get them to close.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Just ordered a CBD hood from MAP to fix the problem in the last photo. I debated about going with carbon on the under side but went with fiberglass instead...just isn't worth another $175 to me.
I'm going to have them ship it to RS and have them install it for me. I don't have a good way to dispose of the OEM hood so I'll let them scrap it.
