Suspension noise

well my VR-4 is making a clunking noise when you drive over bumps on the left side, after inspection of the susepension i decide the ball joint should be replaced. well that didnt fix the noise even tho it was bad. so now i am trying to find what else could be wrong. i am gonna rip into the suspension tomorrow. any one have any ideas or experiences similar?

Re: Suspension noise

Have you done any suspension upgrades? Shocks/struts, springs, etc?

Re: Suspension noise

I am not sure how the struts mount in the strut tower but a noise like you are explaining can be often caused by a worn strut mount or bearing plate. In order to have a strut actually make noise you would have to seriously damage it or ir would have to be broken.

Are the sway bar links still in tact and tight?

Re: Suspension noise

You would be surprised at the amount of noise a tight but rotted swaybar link will make. Replace them with some poly bushings and benifit from it while you are at it.

Re: Suspension noise

OK so i went ahead and foudn that my control arm bushings were getting really bad, i put in new ones and they didnt help. Damn! I also figured out it was not my sway bar links either. I think my next step will be to rip out my strut assemblys and make sure there isnt anything caught in my springs, and clean the spring perches. Also wile apart i am gonna check the strut mounts. Any other ideas before i go crazy?
