porting to 7cm, remove step, remove ring?

Ok, so i'm definitely still a newbie at DSMs. I now have a ported evo III manifold, and i'm figuring some things out here.

From what I've heard, my car has a little ring to align/seal the turbo to the stock manifold. ALso what i've heard is that when people port both out to 7cm, they do not use a ring, they remove the step and remove the ring, and get a 7 cm gasket.

Is this right? is this ring a necessary part, will i blow out gaskets without one? Do i need to get a 7 cm ring?

Thanks!

The ring is in the stock manifold, or was at one point. Just port to 7cm and use a 7cm gasket. What turbo are you running? The turbo will need to be ported to 7cm if it isnt already.

Use the new 7cm^2 gasket as a template for porting the turbo. The diameter of the hole is NOT 7cm across. You will no longer retain the ring.
