Trans problem

I just swapped in a new (used) AWD trans in my 1g Talon, and now I'm running into some unusual problems...

While under acceleration it feels as though my clutch is slipping (RPMs build and the car doesn't accelerate with it), I'll get an odd pulsing which feels like it's coming from the rear, and it will make a grinding noise if I give it any amount of throttle.

Any ideas on what this could be?

The clutch, rear end, and transfer case were all just fine before I swapped in this trans.

I was told to try and adjust the shifter cables becase it could be caught between multiple gears, does this sound plausible?

Re: Trans problem

I would say the shifter cables need to adjusted correctly to start with and then if you still have a problem I would say the transmission has internal problems.

Re: Trans problem

Is it normal to have to adjust the shifter cables after changing out trannies though? Everything was fine before I swapped this other one in...

Re: Trans problem

If your tranny was caught in multiple gears, your tranny would blow instantly, and its not really possible unless a shift fork roll pin was broken.

It was fairly centered, but more towards the passenger side.

Re: Trans problem

Is the transfer case output shaft splines on the new tranny rounded causing the shaft to ratchet in the t case?

Re: Trans problem

Hey guys, I figured out what was going on. The transfer case was toast and was causing all the problems, and thats what actually took out my tranny I'm guessing. Luckily I had a spare t-case sitting around, so we swapped that one in and everything worked fine!

Thanks for all your help guys!
