Oil Leak

I'm leaking oil from the bottom tensioner bolt hole. I replaced the front case with a new and put a new gasket on, it still leaked. I just pulled the case off and put a new gasket on it again and it's still leaking. Anyone have any idea why it's leaking from there? It's a 6 bolt 2.4l.

Re: Oil Leak

I was thinking cracked case since there's an oil passage right next to that bolt, but if you changed it, I can only think that there's somthing wrong with the block. It's not the right way to do it, but have you tried smearing some RTV around the bolt just before you put it in?

Re: Oil Leak

Yep, did that 3 times. It doesn't make any damn sense! What would cause the block to crack there? It would have to just be a weak spot in the block because there isn't any pressure on it there, and Mitsu isn't known for poor castings. He even tried some teflon tape on the threads with the RTV and it didn't do it. It absolutely poors out of there too, not just a drip, but a solid stream.

Re: Oil Leak

Yeah, he warmed it up to get it to leak, then tore it apart and turned the oil pump with a drill. It would just pour from the lower tensioner bolt hole.

It only seems to do it when the car is warm.

Re: Oil Leak

It sounds like an issue with the block .

It's from between the tensioner and the case is where it leaks from.
