Oil pan return line location

Well i just spoke with the repair technician at Precision Turbo. He inspected my 50 trim and said it looked very good. I use a 10AN return line but his concern was where it drains into the pan. The flange on the oil pan is pretty close to the bottom of the pan. So you're draining oil literally into oil and he thinks it maybe be backing up. He wanted to know if i could relocate the flange so it's above the oil level(picture a bathtub. water spout is higher than the water level).

Does this even make sense to you guys? I've never heard of it. Let me know if you guys have had to relocate you flanges higher up on the pan. Dam! I'm using a 10AN line which is huge compared to the dinky 4AN feed.

Have you been filling your oil too high. If not, it should be fine.

4 1/4 quarts. Even with the top notch on the dipstick. How much oil do you put in?

I made my own starting with a NT pan. I put it slightly above the stock location and a bit towards the outside as well. I used -12AN line and welded on a steel -12AN fitting to the pan. No leaks anymore.

The -12AN line just barely fits over the stock metal return line, which I used for the fitting on the turbo.

When the engine is running, your 4.5 quarts are all through the engine, it's not all sitting in the pan.

Did you do this setup because you were having any turbo problems leaking? You said you were leaking, so i'm just wondering where and why you went thru this modification.

I am guessing he did it because he was sick of the oil leaking from the return line on the pan side. You should be ok with the stock location. I'd say 99% percent of everyone on here is using the stock location.

Yeah i don't think that is the problem. I'm looking into a possible crankcase ventilation problem. I was running with a PCV valve when apparently i should have just used a regualar barb. I have my 2 lines off the valve cover going to a JAZ catch can since i run a Magnus manifold. Perhaps i wasn't getting enough crankcase pressure out.

I went with it because I was sick of the leaking gasket of the stock setup. Plus I LOVE braided line.

The top notch of the dipstick should be a bit more than 4.25 quarts. You shouldn't run it that high anyways. Go for the middle of the dipstick or lower. Oil return flange placement isn't usually a huge issue on DSMs, it is on cars like Hondas, where dumbasses will put the flange at the lowest point possible on the pans.
