yep pretty much, the angle on the port determines the "venturi" effect on the gases.

It just has to be facing "downstream" I think, so that there is a low pressure area around the opening as exhaust flows past it. I think almost any angle would work, except when you're getting close to perpendicular, which would inhibit exhaust flow more as well. 45 degrees sounds good to me. and the nice thing about that is that oil vapors that escape will be burned or at least deposited in your muffler for use later.
