Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
This could be a completly retarded thought but, has anyone ever thought about doing a remote turbo setup on a DSM? For those not familiar, it would be mounting the turbo back where the muffler would be. I don't know if there would really be anything to gain by doing so but it would at least be unique. Although it would cool down the engine compartment and free up some space.

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
I've seen pictures of a setup like that before. I want to say it was something Leon Reitman put together but I don't think that is correct. Nice work Nick!

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
yea, I like the twisted idea w/ the compressor wheel hanging out the hood. I like all the thermal wrap on all of the manifold/exhaust components, but why not wrap the turbine housing as well? Nice work on a nice custom setup, but don't let your timing belt/rear cam gear wear through your plug wires!

Why not spend $300 on some Eagle rods? You gonna wait til a rod breaks at 8500 RPMs and part of a piston goes through the turbo? Or do you not plan on making any real power?

You need to do some research. Remote mounts suck, they usually only do them if there isn't room in the engine bay. Your piping gets a lot longer and the exhaust gas isn't as hot, so you get less power.

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
Well it'd be nice if he wanted to make a lot more power, but to be honest, the owner of this car is 17 years old and right now he cant afford a bottom end. For now it's gonna have to stay suttle until he can get some rods in the block. Probably be a winter project.

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
So another one of those kids who thinks he can slap on a big ass turbo and make shitloads of power. Oh well, at least when he tries to run too much boost he'll have a reason to get a bottom end.
Looks fricken awesome though.

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
Taken care of and tuned well, stock blocks are now pushing 560whp. The insurance of having a built motor is nice though.
If you have to ask where the PS pump goes, this type of project is not for you.
Nice work Nick, looks good.

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
he can and will make decent power. I had a stock rod 2G piston motor that made 530+whp almost 2 years ago now that still runs today.

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
I was going to try the big kahuna from cheapturbo.com, but I did not, I thought the exaust and compressor side were too mismatched. So the turbo would not work the "normal" way with a cast t3 manifold?

Re: Custom 1G Setup Pics
I was looking at the big kahuna also but decided on something bigger for cheaper. I won't be using it though.
