Re: Evo X upgrades
Ever done something that you knew was a bad idea because it would "only be a few minutes" or something like that?
I figured I'd be fine using an un-fused lead to prime my fuel pumps and I was reminded how powerful electricity is when messed with. Don't worry, the battery is fine.

Whoah kidding about the burning I thought!
I've had a burn like this before, almost lost my brother's beautiful blue 1G to it....someone ran an unfused power lead *around* a gromet in the firewall. Grrrrrr! I had holes in my fingers but not quite as bad as yours. Of course my forearm was all red and black from the flames though

I plugged in one end of that lead, saw smoke, and my unconscious reaction was to grab the wire and yank it to disconnect it. It's not too bad but it was one of those "stop and reflect about life" moments. lol.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Wow, that's nuts. I'm surprised the wire didn't just melt. A guy I raced RC with long ago wired his batteries with the male connector on the battery. I warned him a few times about it (I was in high school, what did I know?) but he proclaimed he had always done it that way. Long story short is one day one of the leads touched and welded themselves to his gold wedding ring. His ring finger ended up looking about like yours.

I did. I'll find a time/place for a pull in the next day or two to test it. I'll drive it to work for a couple days to make sure nothing leaks, etc. The Bosch made a lot of weird sucking sounds and the Jay Racing 044 sounds nice and steady, like a 255. If nothing else then it's less annoying.

Good deal! So when will we know if the car is healed?

Re: Evo X upgrades
Haha ouch! Ive melted one wire like that while wiring up a switch in my old 1g, I flipped the switch and the wire melted the plastic right off, so I turned it back off. No injuries haha.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Saturday I'll test the fueling situation and change the oil. I have low expectations.
Sunday I'll swap on the snow tires. Not having a TPMS light will be a treat.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I made a couple quick pulls today and the fuel pressure behavior didn't look too bad.
I've decided to make an appointment with Ron @RS for an hour of dyno time. We'll test it out and I'll get the opinion of another guru if it doesn't look right. I'm going to see if I can get away from work on Friday afternoon for that.

Is the hand healed? I imagine there'd be no "personal time" for at least a week with that type of injury, lol.

haha! Yesterday was the first full day without bandages. It looks bad but it didn't prevent me from typing (work) so nbd.
I've been single for 4-5 years now so I'm pretty resourceful.

Re: Evo X upgrades
Haz fuel? Ron did a half-dozen pulls on his dyno this afternoon and the new pump looked good to him. He added some fuel up-top and the AFRs responded as they should.
He is suggesting that my motor is burning oil because my catch can arrangement doesn't breath well enough (the motor is tight or needs more airflow). I'm going to try changing that up as he suggested.
I'll go back in a couple weeks and we'll try to turn up the wick. 437/366 on his dyno as it sits.

Re: Evo X upgrades
So we had chatted about power source and/or grounding issues(quick/easy/cheap option). Or the pump as the next to check. If this fixed it.. Congrats!

Yeah, I experimented for a week with ground locations and I ran a wire from the engine bay and it didn't seem to help. As soon as I dropped this Jay Racing 044 in, fuel pressure looked well behaved--I was able to hit 68psi on a couple pulls on the trip to Rock Falls last weekend.
I guess the real test will be when we try to add power.
Thanks for your help!

437whp at ....less than 23psi? Holy eff that is awesome!
Time for more boost and see if you can put all this fuel system bs behind you! Good luck!
