Re: Black Friday sales!
another thing with the led's, they are darker compaired to lcd, but give much truer colors. they give better colors because the led's can be turned on or off creating much much more contrast.
led's also use about 40% less electricity than lcd's
another thing with the lcd's, is that if you have a bright spot, mostly white, it tends to be so bright it washes out surrounding colors

My work decided to go green and bought LED laptops for us this year. Their main reasoning is because they use less electricity. The batteries last longer than our previous computers, but I don't notice any major differences. Looking at my screen right now, the graphics are fine. The only difference in picture quality I notice is if I try to watch a video clip or movie full screen. The picture quality on this computer is crap compared to our previous ones with the lcd screens. It is definately a noticable difference in full screen clips. I am not sure if the picture quality is better in the TVs than it is on laptops, but I would definately look at the picture quality before buying one.

Me- "I don't think you would stand a chance."
Cop says "probably not" and drives off.

Its like MattD Stated earlier, LED is the backlighting, not the actual pixels. your new laptop just has LED Backlighting rather than cold cathod. Its more energy efficient, and can be made thinner. Hence why the new LED Tvs are like 2 inches thick. but your screen is still an LCD.
If your company is really looking to become energy efficient, tell them to replace all of their light bulbs and recessed lighting with Permlight LED products. I used to work for this company and the energy savings is awesome, and yet it produces the same if not more light than a regular bulb.

I don't work out of an office so I am not too sure what they do there. My closest office is in Austin, TX. The computers we have are Lenovo T500s.

Again, as Tom and I have both stated, you still have an LCD. One is lit by a cold cathode fluorescent light, the other uses LEDs. Either way it's the same LCD panel. The LEDs are not turning on or off, it's still up to the LCD to block out light to make the screen look black.

Its nice to finally agree with Matt for once. Of course this has nothing to do with politics, and we both know about computers and IT Stuff.

so if its just the exact same screen, and the only difference is the back light, why do the led tv's have a contrast ratio of 2 million to 1, and the normal lcd's are normally around 50k to 1?
so why is it that the same lcd screen magically create 40 times more contrast?
because the leds are capable of turning on and off the help create richer and deeper colors. its called led local dimming, look it up
thats part of the reason led's are so much more expensive, leds are extremely cheap, the program that turns the leds on and off is very expensive.
didnt we just have a conversation like this in another thread, about people correcting other people but no knowing what there talking about?

The way you explained it was as if the LEDs were doing the coloring, not an LCD, and that is why I corrected you. If you want to argue semantics, that's fine with me.

Actually Sony, LG, and Sharp now has screens that have clusters of RGB (red, green, blue) LEDs in a full array with local dimming, so that the colors now are very intense as are the contrast ratios. Closest thing to OLED picture quality until those become affordable. The back lighting on these are infact contributing to the colors now.
Samsung currently only has full array White LEDs on their top 8000 LED series.

Re: Black Friday sales!
LCDs are still inferior to a great plasma like a Kuro from pioneer.
The problem with local LED dimming is that there is a bit of "cloudiness" as you can't have a 1:1 led to pixel ratio let alone 1:1 RGB led cluster to pixel ratio.
